Finding it hard to distinguish between all the Michigan wedding photographers? With so many sites pointing to various wedding photographers in Michigan, how is a couple supposed to be able to differentiate between all of us wedding photographers out there? For starters, check to see how long we've been in the wedding business. There are a lot of new photographers to the field and while lots of them have enthusiasm aplenty, few of them have any wedding experience to speak of. So their wedding package prices are pretty good, but can they actually handle a wedding? I didn't truly start to feel comfortable handling all that goes into shooting a wedding until I'd shot 300 or so of them. Wedding photography is some of the most technically difficult photography there is. Throw in perpectually crummy lighting conditions, a once in a life time event, lots of jitters and you really need to rely on your experiences so you can concentrate on the job at hand without having to even think about the technical aspects of your job. That only comes through years of experience.
Not all of the information here on the web site is related to wedding photography and being a Michigan wedding photographer. Some of this site is dedicated to the work I do as a Michigan children's author and illustrator. I became a children's author and have three books published by Penguin Putnam. Skip to the last paragraph for more information about Michigan author school visits.
I've recently added a wedding blog, which is a great way to check out my more recent wedding photography and I also update my popular rave reviews section which is stuffed full with testimonials from my happy brides. The reason I've included all of this text is so that if you're looking very specifically for wedding photographers in metro Detroit or just to find out more about wedding photographers who uses a photojournalistic style and who has a real photojournalist's background, then I'm helping your search along. Some people don't exactly know what a wedding photojournalist is... almost all wedding studios now offer a "photojournalists wedding package". But what is that and why is wedding photojournalism suddenly so hot? Well, unbelievably, couples have only recently began to be interested in having their weddings show the REAL story of their day which most wedding photographers do not do! But that's the way I've always shot news assignments and that's the way I shoot weddings in Michigan. I've been a wedding photojournalist for almost 20 years, capturing spontanious moments (or candid moments) at all the weddings I shoot in Michigan. My wedding photography is based in metro Detroit, Michigan and I try to stay 50 miles from Troy, Michigan where my wedding photography business is based. Wedding photography shot in a photojournalistic style means that as a wedding photographer, I shoot candid moments and capture moments of the day as they unfold naturally rather than spending all day long bossing your around posing pictures. I try to bring this relaxed style to my boudoir and glamor photography and while shooting senior photos and portraits as well. This MI wedding photographer lives in the metro Detroit area of Michigan. I give you all the photos I shoot and you own the rights to the images on your wedding day. That means you can reprint and print to your heart's content. You own the negatives or high resolution digital images as soon as I fix them up which usually takes me many hours and several days to do. I've always given my couples their images because they mean the world to you. Why would I keep your images hostage? You've paid me, the professional photographer, to shoot your wedding. I want you to use your images from day one. Wedding photographers are a dime a dozen in Michigan, but to find one who loves what she does and delivers everything she promises and more is partly what makes me so unique. I end up shooting a lot of weddings in Oakland County, down in Wayne County and of course, the college towns, like Ann Arbor and East Lansing.
Some of the things this wedding photographer (based in Troy, Michigan by the way, which is near Rochester Hills, Bloomfield, Birmingham and Macomb County, has learned is that wedding photography and wedding photographers vary greatly. Couples looking for a very specific style (which this real Detroit wedding photojournalist is also a working photojournalist who just happens to shoot weddings and loves to take spontaneous and candid wedding photos), can find that it's hard to find actual photographers based in Michigan! Most of the sites that come up are located outside of Michigan, or would charge a fortune to drive or fly there. Who on earth considers Michigan a destination wedding? Okay, I take that back. A lot of my couples are from out of town and are planning their weddings long distance and that makes it hard for them to meet with any wedding photographer or wedding photographers in Michigan. So finding me here is helpful to all the couples planning weddings in Ann Arbor, weddings in Lansing and wedding around Michigan. I travel within a 50 mile radius of Troy, MI which means that I do shoot weddings in Ann Arbor (just at the very edge of my limit included in the price) and I do wedding photography in Lansing and I do occasional shoot weddings in Saginaw and Midland, or the Tri cities as they're called in Michigan. I'm also available to set up a photo booth at your wedding. A photo booth, or photo booth is where my lovely assistant sets up a camera in an unpopulated area and takes fun photos of your guests. Photo booths can provide both entertainment as well as a service to your guests. You'll post all the photos on the site you've uploaded all your wedding photographs to and you'll send them a link so your guests can see all the silly things they did at your wedding and in the photo booth. All the images are digital and of very high quality.
If you are planning a long distance wedding, I've got plenty of tips for your wedding planning. You can find those on my site. Go to my site map listed above to get not only tips for planning your wedding, but also advice about the ins and outs of the actual day.
I don't just talk about wedding photography, but also have helpful advice for all of your wedding planning needs.
You may have read about me on the Knot. I don't advertise my wedding photography services on the Knot because I don't believe in paying for advertising. But if you'd like to see what past clients of mine think, try asking about me on the Knot chatboards. I've got a great reputation there. Not too many of my Michigan wedding couples are Knotties, but check it out. A few are real photojournalist, but most of them would never be able to shoot at a newspaper and don't have a photojournalist's ability to spot a candid moment and capture it. They're good for comparing wedding photography prices, but most of their wedding photographers are just that, wedding photographers. They aren't wedding photojournalists. Besides, my brides rave about my wedding photography on the Knot all the time with their wonderful Knot chat rooms. My wedding photography in Detroit Michigan goes over very well with the Knotties. I don't advertise with WPJA because they don't use very many real photojournalists, just a lot of photographers who claim to be wedding photojournalists in Michigan.
I also shoot family portraits, engagement photos, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvah, editorials, senior pictures and editorial and commercial shoots. I'm also photographing boudoir photography, or glamour photography in Michigan. Some people call if glamor photography in Michigan, or bedroom photography as it may be called. I'm also shooting Michigan bar mitzvahs photography and Michigan bat mitzvah photography. The Jewish celebration of 13 year olds is fun and exciting! I'm also available to shoot engagement photos and engagement sessions. I'm happy to take senior photos, but I only travel a 25 mile radius from Troy to shoot senior pictures. I also do family portraits in Michigan. I do photography in Michigan for adoption, birthdays, anniversaries and other family gatherings. I'm a photojournalist with over 20 years experience. I'm shooting weddings now in a photojournalistic style, which makes my wedding photography incorporate my wedding photography skills to make me into a michigan wedding photojournalist. What areas do I work in? I try to stay near Oakland county in Michigan since I live in Oakland County. I have oodles of wedding images to look at. You'll find my wedding portfolio with many wedding photos in galleries. I think it's important to have many wedding albums that show how different each and every wedding is. The wedding photos should be as unique as the couple getting married! I've also got a great reference page that links to many wedding album sites. Most cater towards the bride who wants to put her own album together and I've got quite a few options to choose from. Board book wedding albums are becoming quite popular. They're also called "Zook Binders" or flush mount style wedding albums. The only drawback to those wedding albums over coffee table style albums are that they cost a fortune and they are usually limited to 30 pages which isn't much space considering I usually shoot over 1,000 images from each wedding.
And last, but hardly least is my section about my work as a Michigan children's book author and illustrator. I've had three books published by Penguin Putnam, a very large publisher and now have over 210,000 copies of my books in prints. I use photography to illustrate my children's books. I have three children's books that have been published; Big sister little sister, big brother little brother and I Was So Silly. I'm available to schools for school visits looking for a Michigan author and illustrator. I still turn around to see who people are talking to when they call me an author and an illustrator. I love writing childrens books and I adore working with children. That why I love taking pictures of kids. Kids are goofy and wildly unpredictable and are amazingly creative. I visit schools often, especially during Michigan's March is Reading Month. People always misspell my name, so if you're looking for Marcy Curtis or Marcie Curtis or Marcy Kurtis or Marcie Kurtis you should still be able to find me.
That's all folks! Quit reading this and go check out all the cool photos I have on the site!
