I'd looked forward to Katie and Nick's Detroit wedding all year long. Katie is warm, caring and the first person to explain to me that the reason couples tend to block out their own wedding day memories is a form of post traumatic stress syndrome... really! Even happy memories created under stress can get shelved into the wrong folders of your brain. I think that's why having my Michigan wedding photojournalistic approach to shooting weddings is very helpful for couples as it helps to have me put their wedding day back together for them. Katie and Nick's Detroit wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful St. Peter and Paul's church downtown Detroit. We then went to take wedding photos downtown Detroit at the Hart Plaza. They played, I photographed. There was a shot I'd been trying to figure out how to do for years and this happened to be the first time I found a way to work it into the mix. You know the wedding photo... the one that's become one of my signature images?

Their wedding reception was at the always lovely Atheneum Hotel also in Detroit's Greek town. Great place for a wedding reception and the staff there are extremely helpful to everybody. The Atheneum Hotel in downtown Detroit, Michigan photographs really well for wedding receptions since it's on two levels. A live band capped off the perfect wedding for Katie, Nick and their extended friends and family.
