Best Urban Downtown Detroit Senior Photographer's Cityscape Funky Senior Pictures.
Looking for something a bit more edgy, artsy and colorful for your Metro Detroit senior photos? I love shooting down at the Eastern Market area in downtown Detroit for anyone looking for a safe spot to photograph a funky urban feel for their photos. The only drawback from looking through the samples show here is that the place is always changing and so if you spot one cool background, it might not be available when we get there.

I am happy to travel downtown for senior sessions, engagement and family shoots, just keep in mind that I pick my locations according to where we are welcome to photograph, where we aren't in anyone's way and where we are safe. There also has to be easy parking for both of us. This space lends itself to a changing urban and funky photographic landscape and what appeals to me most as a portrait photographer is that the urban location lends itself to great improvisation. We work with what is there and it is an amazing playground of visual opportunity.
One small word of caution. While the beautiful and classic architecture in downtown Detroit is permanent, the graffiti art is not! I often have seniors who have seen their friends senior photos and want certain backgrounds. I always work with what I've got available and we do move around a lot during the senior shoot. I collaborate with seniors to go with what they like and that's landed us in some interesting areas in downtown Detroit for senior photos. I've shot in alleys, piles of rubble, on crates, etc. The only thing I do ask that is different from my other portrait and senior photography shoots is that you bring along an adult. This area is GREAT for bringing a fellow senior who is also interested in urban senior photos; what I call "Buddy Shoots". Part of why I like to shoot these as buddy sessions is that safety is ALWAYS my main concern whenever I'm photographing senior pictures in Detroit. We've been approached before by Detroiters who are curious about what we're doing (and to see if any of my gorgeous seniors are perhaps a famous person on set) and we've never encountered anyone who has been anything other than friendly and curious. But I prefer to be cautious and to have a parent or two along who can provide a set of eyes and ears for the senior and I since we're pretty focused on getting the best senior photos possible.
This funky, urban landscape is great for artistic people and there is more to offer than the ever changing graffiti art. If street art is not your thing, no worries. there is tons to photograph in the area that isn't JUST graffiti art. There are alleys and brick and many other "urban" visual cues that you're not in Metro Detroit. Even the Detroit skyline is visible from this location. So come play in this visually stimulating playground with me.
