Michigan Wedding Photographer’s Now Environmentally Friendly!

Environmentally Friendly Wedding Photography Business Comes To Metro Detroit, Michigan.

It’s taken us years to get ready for this moment, but we’ve finally done it! Our Metro Detroit, Michigan wedding photography business, “Marci Curtis – Michigan Wedding Photojournalist” is now environmentally friendly and green. As far as I can tell, we are the ONLY environmentally friendly wedding photography business in all of Michigan.

In order to become as an environmentally friendly photography business here in Michigan, we’ve been making lots of changes to our business here in Michigan. I started searching in Michigan for a list of other environmentally friendly wedding related businesses here in Michigan and there is no such listing! Illinois has one, but Michigan still has no way for clients who are looking to hire green businesses and eco friendly vendors. So if you happen to be a green, environmentally friendly wedding business, let me know so I can spread the word.

We’ve got a small studio and wanted to make our photography studio as energy efficient and clean energy as possible. Not only does this totally go along with who Rodney and I are as human beings, but we also noticed that there really aren’t very many “green”, environmentally wedding photographers in the Detroit area.

So what did we do? Glad you asked!

The BIG news is that we’ve also gone solar! It took us ten years to save for what we feel will be the most important step towards making our photography business as green as possible.

We’ve gone well beyond changing our light bulbs to CF bulbs and now LED bulbs, installing low flow toilets and energy efficient appliances. That was the easy part. Next we tackled water usage. We have shower heads that turn off as soon as the water gets warm so you don’t waste hot water. Then we installed a motion activated faucet in the kitchen. We disconnected the sprinkler system.

We also went completely digital. Not just our photography, of course, but also our delivery system is now all online reducing mail costs considerably.

We also tackled our transportation. We now have a fleet (if you can call all three of our cars, a fleet) of hybrid and/or electric vehicles.

The one thing we do (do) that many other photographers here in Michigan probably also do is that we let our dear dog fertilize the back yard naturally! That may not be technically client friendly or green, but it sure is gross AND environmentally friendly 🙂

If you’re looking to add solar panels to your business or home, we found working with Strawberry Solar to be a wonderful experience.
