Best Downtown Detroit Senior Photographer's Unique Senior Photos Using Classic Architecture for Classy Senior Pictures.
A lot of my Metro Detroit, Michigan seniors are looking for unique, interesting senior photography that doesn't look like all their friends senior photos do. The Metro Detroit seniors who come downtown Detroit with me usually fall into a couple of categories. They are often either looking for senior photo backgrounds that feature fabulous classic architecture or they are looking for something urban, artsy and / or a bit grungy that showcases either incredible graffiti art, or some of Detroit's more abandoned looking urban landscapes found in Detroit, Michigan. No two seniors are the same and all of the metro Detroit seniors that have come to me for their senior photo sessions have wanted something a bit different. You'll see in these photos that I can find lots of different backgrounds and like to take full advantage of all the wonderful senior photo opportunities that downtown Detroit has to offer.

I started offering so called "Buddy" shoots specifically for my Detroit photo sessions. They work out really, really well in downtown Detroit. We can cover a large area and blend both classic looks and more artistic senior photography backgrounds into a two hour senior shoot. In this slide show, there are three different buddy shoots. In all three cases, seniors never knew each other and in one case, you'll see that the weather was less than what the parents wanted, but made for some of the most unique Detroit senior photos I've ever taken! I can accomplish A LOT in an hour's senior shoot, but again, we can cover a lot more ground in a two hour senior photo session.
One small word of caution. While the beautiful and classic architecture in downtown Detroit is permanent, the graffiti art is not! I often have seniors who have seen their friends senior photos and want certain backgrounds. I always work with what I've got available and we do move around a lot during the senior shoot. I collaborate with seniors to go with what they like and that's landed us in some interesting areas in downtown Detroit for senior photos. I've shot in alleys, piles of rubble, on crates, etc. The only thing I do ask that is different from my other portrait and senior photography shoots is that you bring along an adult. Part of why I like to shoot these as buddy sessions is that safety is ALWAYS my main concern whenever I'm photographing senior pictures in Detroit. We've been approached before by Detroiters who are curious about what we're doing (and to see if any of my gorgeous seniors are perhaps a famous person on set) and we've never encountered anyone who has been anything other than friendly and curious. But I prefer to be cautious and to have a parent or two along who can provide a set of eyes and ears for the senior and I since we're pretty focused on getting the best senior photos possible.
I hope as you view the senior picture slideshow you can see the huge variety of backgrounds I can usually get in downtown Detroit; Classic architecture, funky urban landscapes, ever changing graffiti walls and even nature. I've selected these images to show the variety of backgrounds that I can come up with and you'll see a couple of these seniors show the same senior with a variety of images, poses and backgrounds. I wish I could include a lot more from one senior session, but had really edited these down to showcase the variety, not how many we can get in one shoot (which is A LOT)! The majority of senior pictures are taken in just two areas in Detroit where we are welcome and safe. Taking senior photos in Detroit is one of my favorite locations because it showcases every senior's uniqueness so very well. Hope you enjoyed seeing these Detroit senior photos!
